The mission
The mission of Jelfa SA is to enhance the quality of life and prolong the life span of society by manufacturing pharmaceuticals that come up to the highest world standards.
Jelfa Pharmaceutical Company SA is one of the largest pharmaceutical firms in Poland. The Company's main business profile is manufacturing of pharmaceuticals for human and veterinary therapy that constitutes 98% of total sales revenues. The remaining business activities are trading and services related to the main operations, production and sales of energy media, as well as breeding and sales of testing animals, all of which are of marginal importance in terms of generated turnover.
The pharmaceuticals produced here are attractive for the market; hence the Company holds a fairly strong and stable position in the domestic and foreign markets.
Jelfa is the biggest Polish producer of ointments and also the leading manufacturer of hormonal and cardiological drugs and multivitamin preparations. Thanks to significant investments, implemented in order to meet the requirements of World Health Organisation, nowadays the Company is one of the most modern pharmaceutical enterprises in Poland. Furthermore, it is considered one of the leading Polish exporters of pharmaceuticals. The main destinations of exports are Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Lithuania, the Czech Republic, Ukraine, White Russia, and Vietnam.
Jelfa's product portfolio includes approximately 110 preparations with diversified indications, forms and therapeutic effects.
In terms of therapeutic groups, the products of Jelfa may be classified as anti-inflammatory and antiallergic, multivitamin, cardiological, psychotropic, stomatological, diabetic, organic, hormonal, and ophthalmic preparations (at present the Company is the only domestic producer of ophthalmic ointments and it competes with the foreign producers effectively), and neotropic, otolaryngologic, gastroenterologic, calcium, cytostatic and calcitonin preparations.
Jelfa fabricates medicines in the following pharmaceutical forms: ampoules, vials, tablets and coated tablets, gels/lotions, ointments, creams, suspensions, and syrups.
Additionally, the Company prepares chemical substances for own production.
Each year pharmacies, hospitals and clinics receive several new drugs of Jelfa.
Only during 1999, the Company launched 8 new products:
- Calcitonin - hormonal injection, effective in curing osteoporosis, produced under licence of PolyPeptide Laboratories A/S, Denmark,
- Hydrocortisone 0.5% ophthalmic ointment, produced exclusively for exports (foremost to Russia and Lithuania),
- Mianserin - tablets exerting antidepressive action,
- Pancuronium - muscle relaxant, used during surgical operations and interventions,
and the so-called OTC drugs, which are sold without prescription:
- FrutiCal 200 - calcium lozenges available in five various fruit flavours,
- Vitaral - improved preparation containing vitamins and mineral salts,
- Aesciven gel - topical oedema-reducing, anti-inflammatory, and analgesic gel.
The Company operates its own research laboratory; it also co-operates with numerous clinics and scientific institutes all over the country. Thanks to that, Jelfa was able to develop original drugs, such as Ipronal, TFX and Vratizolin. It is worth emphasizing that there have only been a few original medicines registered by Polish companies - three of them have been developed and are presently produced by Jelfa.
